What is the difference between an S5 and S7 Tracker?
Both are Thatcham Approved Trackers. The S7 gives you real-time GPS tracking, 24/7 monitoring and theft recovery, solid protection for most vehicles. The S5 adds Automatic Driver Recognition, a small tag you carry that tells the system the right person is behind the wheel. No tag present and the monitoring centre is alerted straight away. In a world where relay theft and key cloning are the methods gangs now rely on the S5 closes the door they walk through. H-Track will tell you honestly which one your situation calls for.
What does the S5+ Tracker do that the S5 doesn't?
One thing, remote immobilisation. If your vehicle is stolen and located the monitoring centre can prevent the engine from restarting once stopped. It is the most complete Thatcham Approved Tracker solution available and is often a specific insurance requirement for high-value or frequently targeted vehicles. If your policy schedule names an S5+ H-Track will make sure you get exactly that fitted correctly and certificated.
How does the Ghost 2 immobiliser actually stop a theft?
It connects to your vehicle’s own CAN bus, the internal data network every modern car uses and blocks the engine from starting until a unique button sequence you choose is entered. No extra fobs, no visible components and nothing for a thief to detect or remove. Key cloned? Doesn’t matter. Keys stolen? Still not going anywhere. Is the Ghost 2 insurance approved?
Yes. The Ghost 2 by Autowatch carries TASSA approval, the standard recognised by most major UK insurers for aftermarket immobilisers. The approval only holds when the product is fitted by a TASSA registered installer. H-Track are TASSA registered and every Ghost 2 installation comes with the certification your insurer needs. An unlicensed fitting can leave your policy in a grey area, something we make sure never happens.
Will a tracker or immobiliser bring my insurance premium down?
For many of our customers yes, sometimes significantly. Thatcham Approved trackers and TASSA approved immobilisers are recognised by UK insurers as measurable risk reduction. For certain high value or high-risk vehicles they are a condition of cover rather than an optional extra. Thatcham Research is the independent body that sets and tests vehicle security standards on behalf of the UK insurance industry. If a product carries Thatcham approval it has passed rigorous independent testing, it is not a manufacturer’s claim, it is a verified certification. How long does installation take and what happens on the day?
Most installations take between one and two hours. Every engineer who arrives at your door is a direct H-Track employee, DBS checked, fully trained and there to do the job properly. Once the work is done we demonstrate everything, answer your questions and hand over your documentation including your installation certificate. No rush, no shortcuts.
